“For this project, we had six suppliers on the shortlist, and the technology developed by Compte-Fournier made up our minds,” he said. Construction began on the Leforts’ biomass heating system in March 2011. Compte-Fournier is an association of two manufacturers: GroupeCompte-R, lo-cated in France, that has installed more than 1,500 medium-to high-power biomass plants throughout the world, and Industries Fournier, in Thetford Mines, Québec. “Our boilers are used in hospitals, dis-trict heating networks, industries, green-houses and even the London 2012 Olym-pic Games,” said Harold Roy, president of CompteFournier. “We are proud to have installed a system built here in Québec with technology from Europe.” >jged]^llgja_`l2B]Yf?gZ]ad3Klh`Yf]:add]ll]3KqdnYafD]^gjlYf\EYja]%Bgk]D]Zaj]$gof]jkg^D]kK]jj]kD]^gjl3DYmj]fl D]kkYj\3@Yjgd\Jgq$hj]ka\]flg^;gehl]>gmjfa]j3Yf\<geafa[;gehl]$hj]ka\]flg^?jgmh;gehl]%Jaf>jYf[]& TWO BIG BOILERS that we are just at the beginning; we have a lot to do yet in Québec in terms of con-version for renewable energy,” said Gobeil. For the Leforts, Gobeil undertook a feasi-bility study. The project received a financial contribution of $5 million from the Bureau de l’efficacité et de l’innovation énergétique from the Québec Ministry of Natural Re-sources, to be used toward programs target-ing the reduction of heavy oil consumption. Gobeil was also mandated to give his advice on the choice of manufacturer. The biomass heating system chosen by Le-fort has two boilers that weigh 100 tons each, an open buffer tank of 1.3 million li-tres and a hot water distribution system to heat its greenhouses, with thermal shields on the broad-span greenhouses.
